John Ernest Weaver, American botanist and prairie ecologist

“Nature is an open book for those who care to read. Each grass-covered hillside is a page on which is written the history of the past, conditions of the present, and the predictions of the future.” – John Ernest Weaver

John Weaver was a famous prairie ecologist and longtime assistant professor at the University of Nebraska.  His work focused on many issues within grassland management as a whole, and specifically focused on matters pertaining to rangeland and prairie management; as well as drought histories and the resulting implications within those globally imperiled ecosystems. Many of his papers are available online to read for free and are worth the time to do so.

John Weaver was born in May of 1884 and died in June of 1966.
